We need to overcome the expectations that others have for us. Sometimes it takes 20-30 years to let go of what others expect. It can take years to peel off the layers and it can take just as long to embrace our true identity. As we let go of the expectations that others have layered onto us, the freedom we experience is amazing!
When We Know Our Identity, We Want To Be Obedient
We stop being impulsive by being obedient to God. Our obedience results from the foundation of our identity in Christ. We have to know who we belong to in order to stand firmly. If we aren’t willing to allow our identity in Christ to be seen by the world, how can they truly know us?
When we look for a particular type of mate or business partner, we need to know if they share the same ideas and vision for the future. In relationships of any kind, we need to be equally yoked so that we are pulling in the same direction. We need to go in the direction that God has placed into our heart, not the direction others expect.
Consider The Possibility Of Freedom!
I encourage you to consider what that freedom might be like after you have stopped focusing on the expectations. What is keeping you from that freedom today?
