The past few blogs we’ve been talking about understanding our spouses history, identifying the problem instead of focusing on the symptoms, and how to be part of the solution instead of creating more division. Today we’re talking about guys and how we are made in the image of our Creator, the manliest of men who ever walked the earth.

The Model Of A Manly Man

Jesus was the role model of manly men, the carpenter, influencer that stopped mobs prepared to stone a woman, having meals with the most judged individuals in society, He turned water into wine, He fed 5000 people with two baskets of food, and He invited other manly men to join Him in His journey.

He talked to and cared about people, but he had a backbone. He had compassion and patience with people and their imperfections.

He was on a mission and while those around Him didn’t always understand Him, He stayed on track. Jesus was the manliest man of all time. He modeled it consistently. There was nothing weak about Jesus. He sacrificed His life for us and allowed Himself to be accused of things for which He was not guilty.

“Greater love has no one than this that one lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

The Amazing Wife Of A Manly Man

A friend’s wife told me this story about her husband:

“My husband came home from work and he was going through some huge problems. I knew he had a lot to deal with so I went to bed and gave him his space. I went to bed early so I could get up and be awake before he got up in the morning. When he got up I just let him talk. I let him decompress. I let him share what was going on and then I was just there for him and I prayed with him. He brought me mountains that morning and they were real mountains, these were big problems but by the time he left for the day they were molehills and he knew he was an overcomer by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of His testimony. He walked out the door knowing he could do all things through Christ and with God nothing is impossible. He walked out the door ready to take on the day and to make good decisions in that situation. I could have gotten frustrated with his mood and fed his feelings during his low point by saying, “I don’t know if I can do this anymore, but I didn’t.

Ladies And Manly Men: We Are On The Same Team

We have to stop competing and start completing. We are equally made in the image of our Creator. We need to start valuing what the other brings to the table in the image of our God. The marriage relationship was given to us by God to model the intimacy He wants with us. He is a God of relationship and He wants a personal one with us. He wants it so badly that He came to earth to walk in our shoes and to understand our struggles. He did that for us, we should do no less for one another. On this Good Friday, consider the victory that the manliest of all men accomplished on the cross so that we could be with Him for eternity.
