Beware: Under Pressure Watch Out For Explosions

When the pressure is on the most likely outcome is an explosion. This is what happened when I was a kid and one of my friends put on my favorite Michael Jackson Thriller jacket. We made layaway payments on that jacket forever. Then when I finally owned it, my friend decided to put it on and wear it, he even went outside. Of course, I told him to take it off, but he wouldn’t and he kept walking. And that’s when it happened. I exploded. I’m not proud of it. In fact, I look back now and think, why did I do that? Have you ever experienced a situation like this?

Our Dream Is Meant To Help Pull Us Through

Back in the day, the old pressure cookers could explode if the pressure built up enough. Remember, even a diamond has to go under tremendous pressure in order to transform into the beautiful gem it is known to be. We are built for this and we are coming out strong. Whatever is freaking us out today is going to pass. I promise it is going to pass. The dream God gave us is there to help us overcome the pressure.

We Are Not Alone In Our Overwhelming Circumstances

“We do not want you to be uninformed… We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself.” (2 Corinthians 1:8)

Paul didn’t tell us what kind of pressure he was enduring, just that it was not normal pressure, but GREAT enough for them to fear for their lives. He shared that experience so that we would know that we are not alone when we are stressed, overwhelmed, and carrying heavy burdens.

Will It Matter In 20 Years?

In 1 Peter 5:7, the Bible reads, Cast all your cares on God, so why don’t we? Some of the things that cause us to explode are just dumb and petty. I’d like to encourage you to consider whether or not the situation that you are facing will matter 20 years from now. Practice giving your concerns and burdens to God to carry. He’s willing. Are you willing to let it go?
