It seems like taboo for Pastors to talk about money and finances, yet the bible mentions it over 800 times. When the teacher repeats something, it’s probably going to be on the test. Money or lack of education about money or agreement about money is a major cause for divorce. Businesses are sued over money every day and since God mentions it so many times, maybe we NEED to talk about it more.

If Money Were Bad, The Devil Would Assault Us With It

It ain’t about the money. If God can create an entire universe, a planet that has the level of detail that ours has and humans that are as complex as we are… He can make things happen without money. While we are here on earth, however, money funds the Kingdom. Think about it, the most expensive words in the Bible are “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation.” (Mark 16:15)

“Go ye” or go anywhere in the world costs money. Time is money and people who witness need to eat. Jesus didn’t just walk around and talk to people all day, He had enough money that He had to have a treasurer. Jesus wasn’t poor, but while He had money, money didn’t have Him.

God Can Do It Without Us, But He Wants Us To Join Him In His Work

God created us for companionship with Him. He wants to be in a relationship with us. He wants us to want Him and to want what He wants. Usually when we care for or love someone, we begin to want the things they want because we know it will please them. Ask some of our church family who have been on mission trips locally and abroad and hear what a fantastic experience it is to join God in His work.

The Tithe, The 10th, The Number For Completion, Don’t Mess Around With It

If we rent a car and go back to the rental company and tell them that we have decided that we want to give them the gift of this rental car, they will think we are CRAY CRAY! Cuh-razy! The car is theirs in the first place. Who are WE to give them back what is already theirs and then act like we’re doing THEM a favor? We borrowed it, now we have to give it back. God is asking for 1/10th of our increase, the first of it, not the last. It is how we show Him that we acknowledge it is all His in the first place and we have just been allowed to borrow it while we’re on earth.

What Is Our Attitude Towards Returning To God What Is His?

He’s only asking for 1/10th. Take some time today to read Deuteronomy 28:1-14 and see exactly how much God wants to bless us. Is our obedience really that much of a “cost” to us when He wants to give us so much?
