Walking With Our Eyes Wide Open And Ears Shut

When I was talking to God recently, I was walking down the street, and God told me to close my eyes. He said, “See how much more you hear when you close your eyes? Your other senses become heightened.” Think about the last movie you saw that had a kidnapping. That character was likely blindfolded, so after that point their ears tuned in to things such as a horn honking, a train, crossing railroad tracks, or water splashing. When one sense is turned off, the others take center stage.

What Do We See When Our Eyes Are Closed?

I reached the midpoint of my walk and turned around to return home. As I retraced my steps, I passed things such as a storm drain that sounded like flowing water in a bubbling brook. I didn’t hear that the first time when I was walking with my eyes open. This time I heard birds, I heard crickets, I heard a plane up in the sky, I heard a leaf blower in the distance. I passed the storm drain again except this time; I opened my eyes to see that it was a waterfall in someone’s front yard. I had passed it so many times and had never seen nor heard that beautiful sound, yet now I recognized it.

God Wants Us To Hear What’s In Our Future

God continued to tell me, “If you listen with your eyes closed to what I’m going to do in your future, you will recognize it when you see it. Saying that’s what I heard! That’s what I saw!” Our challenge is that we walk through life surrounded by noise, with our eyes wide open and our ears shut. Likewise, when we open up our ears to God, we can hear the things around us. With our ears open, we will be ten times more likely to recognize what God has for us when we see it.
